About Saint Tropez

Saint-Tropez is a french town in the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region.

The inhabitants of the town are called « Tropéziens » and the town is familiarly called « St Trop ».

Saint-Tropez is situated on the south-eastern littoral of the Var department and occupies the peninsula of Saint-Tropez offering a charming view of the harbor of the same geographical name.

Village has a lot of charming places and is divided between the old port and the new one, the old quarter with its Citadelle and « Pré des Pêcheurs » and a well-known cultural quarter« la Place des Lices » at its heart.
This french commune that extends on 12 km has wonderful six well-known beaches: on the west near the border with Gassin there is a long beach « La Bouillabaisse », in the old village –«  La Ponche » and « La Fontanette »; and also such beaches as « la plage des Graniers », and a long one called « la plage des Canebiers »; at the tip of the peninsula you can find « la plage de La Moutte » and a famous beach « The Salins ».

The commune includes also many hamlets as La Bouillabaisse and le Pilon near Gassin, on the hill towards Ramatuelle there are such outlying quarters as Saint-Antoine, Les Carles, Saint-Claude, Sainte-Anne, Saint-Joseph and Saint-Roch; and at the tip of the peninsula: Les Canebiers, Les Vanades, L'Estabet, La Moutte and Les Salins on the eastern edge of the peninsula.

Once a Citadelle of the 15-th century, a fishing village in the beginning of the 20-th century and then the first town on this coast to be liberated during World War II (as part of Operation Dragoon), the town transforms in the beginning of the 1950 in an internationally-known seaside resort, renowned principally because of the influx of artists of the French New Wave in cinema and the Yé-Yé movement in music. Later on, it has been a preferable resort and playground for the European and American jet-set and aristocracy, and of course - a holiday destination for tourists in search of a little Provençal authenticity and an occasional celebrity sightings.

Almost all the properties and villas are built here on large remarkable plots with preserved environment. However, many new constructions are concentrated around the old village and along the coast, in particular between the Capes Saint-Pierre and Saint-Tropez, The Cape Pinet and a long beach Pampelonne. The commune was integrated into the territory of the Golfe de Sait-Tropez by the Council of the Var department.

In Saint-Tropez there are no important roads, nor does it have it's own motorway exit, and it is not serviced by a rail link. The N98 leads you down to the coast from the famous « Carrefour de La Foux » and offers you a very pretty drive around the Golf de Saint Tropez, then it is followed by the not less famous road « la route des plages » that reaches the Cape of Saint-Tropez. This road lies between Saint-Tropez and Gassin on the west. Consequently,

the minor road network plays a very important rôle for the commune, in particularly the coast road « Route des Salins » which goes through the center of the village and crosses the peninsula from west to east; the « chemin du Pinet » goes to the south from the sports complex; and « le chemin Sainte Anne » goes from « la Place des Lices ». There is no road on the peninsula of Saint -Tropez that goes along the coastline, as this prestigious and privileged waterfront position was quickly occupied by luxury villas.
